Welcome! My name is Rachel and I love clothes. Almost nothing beats stepping out of the house in an outfit that looks and feels great. The perfect outfit can truly change your outlook for the entire day.
Something I’ve learned over the past few years is that you need to make your clothes work for you, not the other way around. This is difficult to achieve in big box stores where women’s sizing is a strange and impossible concept to navigate. Don’t get me wrong; I love shopping, but I often leave the mall frustrated by the lack of unique options and my lack of cash to buy the items I really want. What is a 21-year-old-fashionista to do?
I discovered the magic of thrift shopping in my high school theatre days. When the costume room didn’t have what we needed, it was time to go to Salvation Army. We could always find something resembling what we needed and alter it. In extreme cases, we cobbled together what we already had with thrifted pieces to create something new.
Now that I’m (basically) an adult on a shoestring budget, I decided that I can apply the same principles to everyday fashion. You never know what you’ll find in a thrift store, or a theater’s costume sale, or even in a relative’s give-away bin. I’ve found all kind of things from all kinds of places, and with the magic of sewing and accessorizing, I’ve made all these clothes work in day-to-day life. As I write this blog, I hope to learn more about altering and styling vintage pieces and cobbling together some fun and fresh looks. I hope you’ll join me in my thrifting adventure!
